Eligibility

Nationality

  • Must be a citizen of India, or
  • Subjects of Nepal, or
  • Subjects of Bhutan, or
  • Tibetans who have migrated to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  • Persons of Indian origin who have migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda and United Tanzanian Republic (erstwhile Tanganyika and Zanzibar) with the intention of permanently settling in India.
  • Candidates who are not a citizen if India, should obtain certificate of eligibility from Government of India.

Age

  • The Age limit will be specified in the exam notifications.

Special concession in upper age limits:

  • Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes: 5 Years
    • The above concession does not apply in the following conditions:
      • If the minimum qualification prescribed for the posts is lower than a degree of recognised University, or
      • If the candidate has an educational qualification higher than that prescribed for the post, or
      • If the minimum qualification prescribed for the post, is a degree and the candidate holds a degree which is not lower than the qualification prescribed.
    • The upper age limit will be further relaxed (provided other conditions are fulfilled) to fill up the quota reserved for SCs & STs.
  • Other Backward Class: 3 Years.
  • Age relaxation is allowed to all provisional employees of the Kerala Government if the candidate satisfies certain conditions.
  • Ex-servicemen: Up to the extent of the period of service put in by them in the Defense Forces and the period of unemployment on discharge up to a maximum of 5 years.
  • Physically handicapped persons (the blind the deaf and dumb and the orthopedically handicapped): Up to 15 years to the blind and the deaf and dumb and 10 years to the orthopedically handicapped persons.
  • Ex-employees of the Bharat Sevak Samaj (who worked on any Scheme financed by the State or Central Government): Up to the extent of their service in the Samaj. The candidate should be less than 40 years of age.
  • Inmates as well as Ex-inmates of After Care Homes, Orphanages, Rescue Homes and Ex-inmates of Juvenile Homes and Special Homes which are recognised by Government or are receiving grant from Government: Up to 10 years.
  • Labourers of the Indo-Swiss Project: Up to the extent of their service in the project.
  • Ex-home Guards Volunteers (who have completed tenure of three years in the Organisation and who had undergone training during the period satisfactorily): For the entire period of their service. They will also be allowed age relaxation for the period of their unemployment: Up to 7 years.
  • The upper age limit will be relaxed in the case of candidates who have served as the personal staff of Ministers/Leader of Opposition/Govt. Chief Whip/Speaker/Deputy Speaker/Chairmen of Financial Committees of Kerala: Up to the extent of the service. This relaxation is not allowed to Government servants who worked as the personal staff.

Educational Qualifications

  • The Educational Qualifications will be specified in the exam notifications.

Special concession for the Educational Qualifications:

  • Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes: If the minimum educational qualification for posts is prescribed as first or second class Degree/Diploma, it will be fixed as the lowest class. (This concession is allowed for the teaching posts in College).
  • Ex-serviceman will be given preference for recruitment over non-Ex-serviceman, if both get the same marks.
  • National Apprenticeship Certificate holder will be given preference over National Trade Certificate holders.
  • Physically Handicapped Candidates (if otherwise qualified): will be given grace marks up to a maximum of 12% marks to the blind and the deaf and dumb and 10% marks to the orthopaedically handicapped.
    • In cases where selections are made on the results of written examination alone the Physically Handicapped Candidates will be interviewed and the grace marks awarded at the interview will be added to the marks obtained by them at the written examinations and their ranks decided accordingly.
    • If in a selection a physically handicapped and a normal candidate get the same mark preference will be given to the physically handicapped.
    • The order of priority for appointment among the categories of physically handicapped will be (1) the blind, (2) the deaf and dumb and (3) the orthopedically handicapped.
  • Sportsmen: Extra marks will be awarded to meritorious Sportsmen in selections to Class III and Class IV
  • District Weightage: In the case of direct recruitment to certain categories of posts the selection to which is made on District-wise basis, candidates who apply to such posts to the District to which they belong are eligible for weightage of five marks.
